The increasing integration of digital technologies into healthcare requires the adaptation of pharmacy education to equip future pharmacists with essential digital competencies. This paper investigates the rationale for incorporating digitalization into pharmacy curricula and explores the multifaceted concept of digitalization, including artificial intelligence (AI), digital health, and the digital transformation of pharmacy practice. This study examines the current landscape of digitalization in pharmacy education globally and highlights Trkiye’s relatively proactive approach in introducing digital health topics into curricula. However, challenges such as standardization issues, a shortage of qualified academicians, the interdisciplinary nature of digital health, and the digital divide pose significant barriers to its implementation. This paper emphasizes the importance of digital health literacy for pharmacists in the 21st century and advocates for addressing these challenges through standardization efforts, faculty development, interdisciplinary collaboration, and investments in digital infrastructure to ensure equitable access to digital resources and educational opportunities. Ultimately, this paper aims to underscore the critical role of digitalization in preparing future pharmacists for the evolving healthcare landscape and empowering them to deliver patient centered care, drive innovation and advance the pharmacy profession in the digital age.
